Massage Therapy
My name is Kelly McGuire, and I have been a licensed massage therapist for 8 years. My credentials include graduating from the Berkana Institute of Massage Therapy an internationally acclaimed school. I went on to do 2 different medical massage programs after. I specialize in injury and recovery of all kinds. Whether it be medical, surgical, addiction or mental struggles. I specialize in nerve related issues, such as TMJ disorder, sciatica and thoracic outlet syndrome. I provide a compression based, therapeutic massage to help ease the central nervous system, especially for auto immune related problems. I have worked previously in pain management centers, holistic centers, physical therapy centers, and chiropractic offices. I hope to help the collective learn to heal and help guide them in understanding their own pains within my scope of practice. Our society never teaches us how to care for our vessels properly. I have also studied culinary and herbalism as well to help myself better understand how to align mind, body and soul. I'm actively working on putting my knowledge to practice.
Modalities:
Swedish: Swedish massage is a widely practiced form of therapeutic massage that involves techniques like effleurage (long, gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading), friction (deep circular movements), tapotement (tapping), and vibration. These techniques work together to relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, reduce stress, enhance range of motion, and boost the immune system. The massage promotes relaxation, alleviates pain, and supports better posture, sleep, and emotional health. Suitable for athletes, office workers, older adults, and anyone experiencing stress, Swedish massage offers a holistic approach to enhancing physical and mental well-being, making it an excellent option for those seeking to improve their overall quality of life.
Deep Tissue: Deep tissue massage is an intense technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissues using slow, deep strokes and sustained pressure to alleviate chronic pain, reduce muscle tension, improve posture, enhance mobility, and aid recovery from injuries. It effectively breaks down muscle adhesions and scar tissue, boosts circulation, and can relieve stress, making it particularly beneficial for individuals with chronic pain, athletes seeking better performance and recovery, and those with postural issues. By targeting problem areas, deep tissue massage helps correct muscle imbalances and supports overall physical well-being.
Trigger Point: Trigger point therapy is a form of manual therapy aimed at alleviating muscular pain and dysfunction by identifying and releasing trigger points, which are hyperirritable spots within taut bands of muscle fibers that cause local or referred pain. By applying pressure to these points, typically with fingers, elbows, or specialized tools, therapists can help relieve muscle tension, improve range of motion, and promote relaxation. The benefits of trigger point therapy include reduced pain, increased flexibility, improved circulation, and enhanced overall physical function, making it a valuable approach for managing various musculoskeletal conditions and promoting overall well-being.
Sports Massage: Sports massage is a targeted therapy designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery by addressing muscle tension, flexibility, and injury prevention. It incorporates techniques such as deep strokes, stretching, and compression, focusing on muscles relevant to a specific sport or activity. Unlike deep tissue massage, which primarily aims to alleviate chronic muscle tension and pain by reaching deeper muscle layers, sports massage includes pre-event, post-event, and maintenance treatments tailored to the athlete’s needs. The benefits of sports massage include improved flexibility, reduced muscle soreness, faster recovery from injuries, and enhanced performance by preparing muscles for peak activity and aiding in the removal of metabolic waste.
Hot Stone: Adding hot stones to a massage can enhance the therapeutic benefits by providing deeper relaxation and muscle relief. The heat from the stones helps to loosen tight muscles, allowing the massage therapist to target areas of tension more effectively. This can result in reduced muscle stiffness, increased circulation, and improved flexibility. The warmth also promotes a sense of overall well-being, calming the nervous system and reducing stress levels. Additionally, the combination of heat and massage can alleviate pain, promote faster healing of injured tissues, and enhance the overall effectiveness of the massage session, making it a popular choice for those seeking a deeply soothing and therapeutic experience.
Myofascial: Myofascial release massage is a specialized technique that focuses on relieving tension and pain in the fascia, the connective tissue surrounding muscles, using sustained pressure and gentle stretching. This method targets restrictions in the fascia to improve flexibility, enhance blood flow, reduce chronic pain, and restore range of motion. It is particularly beneficial for those experiencing myofascial pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, or recovery from injuries, as it helps to break down adhesions and scar tissue, promote better posture, and facilitate overall relaxation and healing.
Postural Correction: Postural correction massage is a therapeutic approach aimed at addressing muscle imbalances and alignment issues caused by poor posture. This technique uses targeted massage strokes, stretching, and muscle strengthening to release tight muscles, enhance flexibility, and improve alignment. The benefits include reduced pain, especially in the neck, back, and shoulders, improved posture, increased range of motion, and decreased risk of musculoskeletal issues. It’s particularly effective for individuals suffering from postural-related discomfort, desk-bound workers, and those recovering from injuries, helping them to achieve better structural balance and overall physical well-being.
Kinesthetic Taping: Kinesthetic taping involves the application of elastic therapeutic tape to the skin in specific patterns to provide support, stability, and proprioceptive feedback to muscles and joints. This technique aims to enhance natural healing processes, reduce pain, and improve movement patterns without restricting range of motion. By lifting the skin and creating space between muscle layers, kinesthetic tape can alleviate pressure on pain receptors, promote better circulation, and facilitate lymphatic drainage, leading to decreased swelling and accelerated recovery from injuries. Additionally, kinesthetic taping can help correct posture, enhance muscle function, and provide athletes and individuals with additional confidence and support during physical activity, making it a valuable tool in rehabilitation and sports performance optimization.
Aroma Therapy: The benefits of incorporating aromatherapy into massage sessions are manifold, as the inhalation and absorption of essential oils can enhance the overall therapeutic experience. Aromatherapy not only stimulates the olfactory system, triggering emotional responses and relaxation, but specific essential oils possess therapeutic properties that can complement the massage process. For instance, lavender oil is known for its calming and stress-reducing effects, while peppermint oil can invigorate and soothe sore muscles. When combined with massage, the synergistic effects of aromatherapy and touch therapy can amplify relaxation, alleviate tension, reduce anxiety, improve sleep quality, and enhance overall well-being, providing clients with a holistic and deeply rejuvenating experience.
